My Review of Most Unsuitable Courtship by Caroline Clemmons

5 STARS
I anxiously waited for the next book in the Kincaid Series.  I have to say The Most Unsuitable Courtship was even better than I expected! And believe me; I expect a lot from Caroline Clemmons. Her stories have never failed to meet my expectations.

Rena witnesses the brutal murder of her elderly husband who had saved and protected her from the time of her father’s death. She loved her elderly husband the way one would love a wise and protective grandfather, in fact that was the nature of their relationship. When Federal Marshal Storm Kincaid arrived just after the murder of her husband and destruction of her home place Rena knew, with his help, she would be able to avenge her husband’s murder.
Though Federal Marshal Kincaid opposed her decision, he realized if she did not travel with him she would set out to complete her errand of vengeance on her own and would most assuredly be killed.

With this the two set out, one to seek vengeance, the other to bring justice.  What the two experience range from fear to pain to horror to hope to expectation to love and happiness. In short, a roller coaster ride of emotion and adventure that leaves the reader counting the days till the next story in the Kincaid Series.

I highly recommend this book. All the books in the Kincaid Series are wonderful reads. You need not think you have to start from the beginning to read the series. Each book is a story in itself. It is great fun to read them in order because there will be reintroduction to characters you have already read about and fallen in love with, but it is not necessary to enjoy the story in hand.

I hope you read and enjoy the Kincaid stories as much as I do.

Nine Best Selling authors are giving a month long Launch Party for their new site SouthernComfortRomance.com. They are offering a 9 Ways To Fall In Love Box Set available by kindle download for .99 cents. I have finished reading most of these books and thoroughly enjoying every one.

Here are the authors and the books in the box set:

CAROLINE CLEMMONS: THE TEXAN’S IRISH BRIDE

Dallas raised his gaze where Aoife directed. Four girls danced, but only one drew his attention. Shoulders straight and feet flying, Cenora met his glance, then broke away from the other dancers to perform only a few yards from him. Catcalls sounded nearby. She ignored them but gave a toss of her head. Her hair had come unbound, and her act sent her fiery hair a whirl. Light from the blazing campfire cast an aura-like radiance around her. Lantern glow overhead reflected her eyes sparked with merriment, challenge, and something mysterious he couldn’t name. No longer the delicate china doll, her wild beauty called to him, mesmerized him. He visualized her brilliant tresses spread across a pillow, her milky skin bared only for him. His body responded, and savage desire shot through him. Surprised at the depth of his reaction, he wondered if her performance in bed would parallel the unbridled nature of her dance. Good Lord, could this glorious woman truly be his wife? And if so, heaven help him, what on earth was he to do with her?

CARRA COPELIN: CODE OF HONOR

Graeme McAlister has returned home to Texas to discover why his foster brother overdosed on morphine and crashed the company jet. Graeme's determined to unearth the truth and return to Washington, D.C. but, when he sees his brother's widow, will he be able to handle the biggest revelation of all?
A widow at the age of twenty-eight, Maggie Benning, resolves to establish a successful and independent life for herself and her five-year-old son, Andy. Her initial goal is getting back her RN job at the hospital ER where she was accused of stealing the drugs that killed her husband ten months ago. She's reconstructing her shattered life when Graeme McAlister comes back to McTiernan, Texas and stirs up old memories and feelings she thought long buried. Can she overcome past hurt and loss of trust to accept the possibility of a new love in her life?

In the world of publish or perish, her mentor’s request for her assistance on a dig is just the opportunity she’s been seeking. If she can decipher an ancient stone table—and she can—she’ll keep her department. She heads to Guatemala, but drug trafficking bad guys, artifact thieves, and her infatuation for her handsome guide wreak havoc on her scholarly intentions.

ANNA JEFFREY: SWEET RETURN

When renowned war correspondent and photojournalist Dalton Parker is dragged back to his hometown to face his past and handle a family crisis, the last thing he expects is to see a prime pasture of his family’s Lazy P ranch taken over by hundreds of stinking chickens. There’s an explanation for this and its name is Joanna Walsh, his mother’s best friend. While Joanna is a good-looking woman who’s no dummy, she’s the most uncompromising and infuriating female Dalton has ever met. Still, he can’t keep from admiring her caring nature and common sense, not to mention her great body. The dumbest thing he could do is try to lure her into his bed, but he’s never been smart when it comes to women.
Joanna Walsh is known for trying to fix other people’s problems. Believing the oldest Parker son could and should help his mother, Joanna is the one who called him to come back to town. And that turned out to be the biggest mistake she’s ever made. Once the rugged, self-assured Dalton sees her hens and her free-range egg operation, he’s determined they have to go. Yet, through their daily conflicts, Joanna starts to see that while he’s seen and photographed the worst of humanity and grown a hard shell, deep down he’s a softie hiding a damaged heart. At the same time she dreads his abrasiveness, she can’t keep from being drawn to him in a way she’s never been before. Can she fix him, too?

JACQUIE ROGERS: SLEIGHT OF HEART

DELAINE ROBERTS: TWO SIDES OF A HEARTBEAT

"I never stopped loving you, I just stopped begging for you. There's a difference."

After a beautiful proposal, Dr. Grayson Brooks pleads with his fiance', Alexandra Morrison, not to get on the plane. Once the plane is in the air, the events that unfold turn their lives upside down. The tragedy and loss engulfs both families in a situation that spirals out of control.

Secrets are revealed and the past once again haunts both families; as if that isn't enough, Olivia Balcone, once engaged to Grayson and romantically involved with his twin brother, Harrison, returns to Dallas and stirs up more feelings and a lot more trouble.

Alexandra was so close to having it all: a baby, a gorgeous husband, and a family united. But is she strong enough to fight for what she wanted?

BETH TRISSEL: SOMEWHERE MY LOVE

Fated lovers have a rare chance to reclaim the love cruelly denied them in the past, but can they grasp this brief window in time before it's too late?

Two hundred years ago Captain Cole Wentworth, the master of an elegant Virginian home, was murdered in his chamber where his portrait still hangs. Presently the estate is a family owned museum run by Will Wentworth, a man so uncannily identical to his ancestor that spirit-sensitive tour guide Julia Morrow has trouble recognizing Cole and Will as separate. As Julia begins to remember the events of Cole's death, she must convince Will that history is repeating, and this time he has the starring role in the tragedy. The blade is about to fall.

During the month of September there will be drawings for Kindles, Coach Purses, Goodies, Bling and Amazon Gift Cards.

My Review of The Oathtaker

OathtakerOathtaker by Patricia Reding
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Oathtaker
Written by Patricia Reding

I was given a free copy of Oathtaker in exchange for an honest review.

I give this story 5 stars.

If you enjoyed Lord of the Rings, you will love this story. Oathtaker is well written, full of twists and turns, adventure, dangers, triumphs, and magic both good and evil. The characters are well thought out and believable. The plot is flawless.

Have you ever read a book that had all the fine points worked out but you just could not get into the story? Well, this is not that book! When you pick up this book be prepared to fall in love with Mara as she battles her way through the maze of evil and magic to protect her two tiny wards.

Mara is an Oathtaker. The Oathtakers are a sect dedicated to the protection of The Select who are the leaders and moral backbone of the society. Though young and untested Mara is well trained and possesses a strong devotion to The Good One. When she is “called” she does not hesitate to take the “Oath” that will bind her to two infants. These two tiny, as in newborn infants, will grow up to be instrumental in the survival of all that is good in their world.

Mara meets up with Dixon, another Oathtaker. Dixon is the Oathtaker to the mother of the infants. When the mother dies in childbirth he is released from his oath. Knowing the significance of the two infants, he binds himself with a lesser oath to them. Together, Mara and Dixon will strike out on a journey to save the babies from the evil that would kill them and rob the world of all peace and goodness.

Along with the few power-endowed tools of her trade, Mara soon learns of her attendant magic. This is magic that is granted to an Oathtaker when needed to protect her ward. Mara gathers a small but unique army of followers willing to take an oath to protect the babies.

The journey ahead, for this small group, is filled with twists and turns, as Mara and the others must out wit the evil and dangerous powers that threaten the babies and the world. This story contains adventure, intrigue, battles to the death, and of course love.

Will Mara be able to protect both of the babies? Will she be able to save the man she loves and still keep the babies safe? Will she be able to defeat the ancient power that threatens to cast her world into darkness? You will just have to read the book to find out.

Ms. Reding is truly a gifted storyteller. This is not a book to miss. I am anxiously waiting for “Select” the next book in this series.

Come Follow The Path With Best Selling Passion's Vision

Passion’s Vision is the first book in my Passion’s series. James Fitz-Gerald is an agent for King George II. He is sent on a mission to Chota Town, a major settlement of the Cherokee, to locate and terminate a French agent creating unrest between the natives of the area and the settlers.  This book is a story of love. James learns a great deal about honor and bravery when he becomes a warrior and blood brother to the tribes Most Beloved Warrior. He learns even more when he falls in love with New Moon, a warrior in her own right.

I will be posting Character Interviews and Character Sketches in the next few days. I welcome past readers of Passion’s Vision to comment and share your thought on the characters of Passion’s Vision and Passion’s Price.

Introduction to Passion's Vision and James Fitz-Gerald

When I decided to try my hand at writing, I did what every other aspiring author does…I looked back at my family history for a story to tell.  To my disappointment, there was nothing very exciting in my family line.  I haven’t given up on my family. I’m sure there is a story there somewhere. But…when I turned my attention to my husband’s family…WOW…I found a character on whom I just could not turn my back. This man inspired the entire Passion’s series.

Again, like any aspiring author, I read everything I could find on this ancestor of my husband’s.  I read, took notes on the palm of my hand, the back of my hand, on my wrist, grocery store tabloids, gum wrappers, tiny notepads, anything I could get my hands on. I even carried a tiny recorder.  I just had to do this because there is no timetable or appropriate location for inspiration. It just happens.  During my more organized moments, I created a file to keep track of any historical events pertinent to my story. I created a basic outline containing interesting, exciting, death-defying and romantic escapades of my hero that I was sure would  thrill my readers.  The whole experience of writing is glorious in a way only an author can understand.

This ancestor is James Adair who wrote, as I understand, the first book outlining the lives of several Native American tribes. At the time I was researching this book, Adair's History of American's Indians, was difficult to find but I did locate an old copy. I used his book as one of my sources for research on the time as well as research on the man himself. I must admit, much of my own romantic imagination went into creating James Fitz-Gerald. Passion's Vision is a totally fictional story about the love that grew between an agent of King George II and a warrior woman of the Cherokee tribe. Thanks to Adair's book I feel I was able to bring to life a time in history that was filled with adversity, pain, adventure as well as pride, justice and a love for community and nature that sometimes feels lost in the world today.

I will bring you more interesting tidbits on Passion's Vision and the character James Fitz-Gerald so be sure to visit again. Passion's Vision can be found at Amazon in paperback as well as kindle download. It is also available at most digital retailers online. If you don't have a kindle you can download the app. by clicking on the Kindle app. add to your left on this page.

Introduction to Passion's Price

Passion's Price

Passion’s Price, Passion Series, book two. Golden Dawn is the daughter of James-Fitz-Gerald and New Moon. Dawn has inherited her father’s fair hair and blue eyes. At first sight one might mistake her for a softer sort, but like her father, she is bold and determined. From her mother she has inherited the gift of sight. Unlike her mother, she does not question for a moment what her sight reveals.  She will risk anything, including her own life, to save the man she loves.

Raven Cloud, called Little Buffalo as a boy, is the love of Dawn’s life. James Fitz-Gerald raised Little Buffalo as his own son. James was a wealthy merchant with his main office and shipping line located in London. When Raven’s own anger and uneasy spirit forced him to leave the tribe, James appointed him his legal heir and sent him to run Fitz-Gerald Shipping.
For years, Dawn has missed Little Buffalo as half her soul. She has a vision that he is mortal danger. Her path is clear and only she can save his life. She knows her own may be forfeited, but she is willing to take that chance. Like her mother, she will pay any price to save the man she loves--even if it means wearing white women's clothes.

Passion’s Price is the story of a Cherokee Princess that bursts upon English High Society with one goal in mind. The story is filled with adventure and twists, daring escapades, hilarious antics, dangers, and triumphs.

I hope you pick up a copy today and enjoy the story as much as I enjoyed writing Passion's Price.

Passion's Vision...New Moon

When I researched Cherokee women of the 1700's for Passion's Vision I was amazed by the strength, both in body and spirit, of the Cherokee woman. She was honored for being a woman. Cherokee women went to war and in fact had a say in as to the tribe going to war. They were strong in body as they built the homes, raised their children and  performed the many tasks required of a Cherokee woman of that day. They were strong in spirit as they prepared their children for the life ahead of them and took part in all aspects of the tribe.

I love reading and writing about strong women. By strong I mean the kind of women that have a sense of their own worth. Women that know how to love and to inspire. Women who will not give up. Women who make a difference in their own lives as well as those they come in contact with. This is the kind of woman I wanted New Moon to be.  It didn't take New Moon long to start developing into just such a woman.

I hope you enjoy New Moon's story.

Tabitha's Journey

Tabitha's Journey: A Stone Mountain NovellaTabitha's Journey: A Stone Mountain Novella by Caroline Clemmons
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tabitha’s Journey by Caroline Clemmons

Tabitha’s father has died. The reading of his will only compounds Tabitha’s pain and confusion. After years of working at the family business and keeping it running to spite her father’s and brother’s total inability to manage a business, everything is left to her brother, David. Worse, according to her father’s will, her brother is her guardian until her thirtieth birthday.

Tabitha is trapped! The inheritance her beloved grandmother and mother intended to go to her is placed out of reach as long as her brother is her guardian and, as her guardian, he is forcing her into marriage to his wife’s brother.

William, her brother-in-law, is a cruel man that is determined to ravish her to insure the marriage takes place. He has attempted to take her once and is threatening to complete the evil deed if she does not comply to his and her brother‘s wishes. Her own brother threatens to commit her to an asylum if she causes any trouble and refuses the marriage.

Tabitha’s best friend, Priscilla, accepted a proposal for marriage as a mail order bride but now wants out of the arrangement. Her best friend’s situation offers a perfect way out for Tabitha. Or so she thought.

This is a delightful book. It takes the reader back to Raedford Springs, the home of the The Men From Stone Mountain series. Tabitha’s arrival is anything but quiet and unassuming. Her attraction to Tobias, her intended husband, is strong. His strong feeling of being “passed off” is obvious.

The questions are, will Tobias Baldwin overcome his feelings of rejection and give in to the passion of his desires? Will Tabitha’s brother and lecherous brother-in-law find Tabitha before Tobias figures out what he wants?

I give Tabitha’s Journey 5 stars. I loved this book. I love reading stories that bring my favorite characters from other books together. Tabitha is full of spunk, imagination and has a heart of gold. Tobias is a big bear of a man. In fact, his nickname is Bear. His verbal responses to Tabitha seem cold at first, but I was not fooled and neither was Tabitha. He is a big, kind, bear of a man that can take care of business. Together, they are well suited and I hope to read about them again in another story.

Welcome to Science Fiction Author Barry E. Woodham

Today I am very happy to be interviewing Barry E. Woodham. If you are a reader of Science Fiction then you are familiar with his work. If you haven’t read any of his books then you need to do so right away and find out what all the buzz is about.

So lets get right to this.

MA.   Barry, I know my readers would like to know something about you. Please tell us a little about where you are from and what caught your interest in Science Fiction.

B.W.   As a design engineer I have written instruction manuals explaining how my machines worked, but never fiction!   I never really thought of being a writer, it just sort of happened! One lunchtime I had nothing to read and decided to write down some ideas that evolved into Genesis 2. Eventually I had people stopping by my design section asking me when the next chapter would be available to read?  When the project closed, I was able to retire early and continued to write and finish the first book. Because so many people wanted to know –“What happened next” - What can I say, I was hooked! As I too wanted to find out what happened next, I continued writing for the next 15 years! Now I write because I love it. To my amazement the reviews on Amazon have been astounding so I have taken the step of self-publishing all six novels. Now that the seventh is finished, I will spend some more of my children’s inheritance and send another flight of fancy aloft! The joy of knowing so many people love to read my SF is icing on the cake.

M.A.  Do you another interest that is close to your heart?

B.W.  Actually, Mary I have been seriously think about how I might contribute to charities like Cancer and Alzheimer's research. I would like to share my blessings in a useful way. At age 70, what would I spend money on anyway?

M.A.  You know what they say 70 is the new 50.  I am sure you have many more wonderful SF stories to delight your readers with.

MA.   I have read quite a bit of your work and your ability to create other worlds that are so different, but totally believable amazes me. It has to be a gift. I know when someone has a gift the things that inspire can be boggling yet so interesting to others. Can you give me an example of something that inspired you in creating your favorite character?

B.W.  Artificial intelligence has always fascinated me and the personality of Kamiel and how he managed to ‘go around’ his conditioning to safeguard the cloned humans and apes made me think. Watching him evolve throughout the Genesis series of books was intriguing! His interpretation of his mission to include ALL sentient creatures in his guardianship allowed me to continually delve into the logic and balance of his mind!
Peterkin however, allowed me to glimpse what it could be like to be an almost immortal being governed by a set of ethics handed down by his people that he had to break to save them! Now that gave me endless hours of typing fun to unravel. I delved into the archives of the Internet and blended old legends with speculation.

MA.   Every author has a favorite author.  Would you share with us, who is your favorite author? Is this author the one that inspired you to write your own SF or was there another author that did that?

B.W.    I have many favorite authors and for sheer variety Tad Williams come to mind. I can honestly say that I have not been inspired by just a few science fiction authors, I have been inspired by hundreds over the years. Many of them have died of old age and I miss their ideas and speculative fiction. I have read the magazine called Analog for at least 55 years so I have read thousands upon thousands of short stories, novels, novellas by all kinds of writers. I still have SF magazines from the sixties in order on bookshelves that I simply cannot bear to throw away!

M.A.  Is Molock’s Wand  your Work In Progress?

B.W.  Yes it is. I am looking at the last chapter at the moment.

M.A.  Could you tell us a little about that story?

B.W.   Yes. Two centuries after the destruction of the Dark Elves by the new High King, Molock’s Wand is the sequel to Elf War and follows the ruthless journey of revenge of the Halfling daughter of Molock’s rape of a human women. An overlord in her own right, she escapes the virus that destroyed the Dokka’lfar by being part human. Her stronghold is burnt to the ground and she escapes the vengeance of the humans that were under her control  and embarks on a violent journey of revenge against the High King, Peterkin.

To do this she needs Molock’s Wand from the rubble of the Dream-shifter that Peterkin destroyed along with Abaddon, Molock’s son. This is on Haven, the world where Peterkin lives. Once in her genetically keyed hands she will resurrect the Dream-shifter and build her revenge. Taking the life force from any who she can subdue, she remains young and telepathically powerful. Once again Peterkin is forced against his will to become a killer.

M.A.  Sounds like a great story. Don't meant to rush, but I hope Molock's Wand is available soon. I enjoyed your Tales of the Ferryman and they can be read for free on your bog, but are they available anywhere else as well?

B.W.      http://authonomy.com/writing-community/profile/e73a5c4a-76ba-4025-9df8-f73160cf876d/barry-woodham/           Just Click on READ THE BOOK  and all 15 Tales are there.

M. A.  Barry, thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights with my readers. One request from me….Finish Molock’s Wand!!!

B. W.   It is finished! I need to tidy up and provide a character list. I am on the last chapter and then I need to read it through again and search for Faux pas!

B. W.  Thank you, Mary, for featuring me on your blog.  It has been an enjoyable experience.  I always enjoy reaching out to readers who love SF. Many of my readers who have ‘done the course’ have said that I have ruined them reading other authors work as I have taken them back to science fiction as it was – aliens – time travel – powers of the mind – space travel – AI and all in the same book! Now I have added elves as well into the mix, without magic! What’s next? Only time will tell, but I promise it will be worth the wait. The last few sentences of Molock’s Wand could springboard another set of adventures in the parallel universes! With a host of parallel worlds at my imagination to explore all sorts of problems could beset the elves in the future.

M.A.  And I thank you for sharing yourself with my readers. I hope you will come back soon and share more of your work with us.

I have listed each of Barry’s books with links to Amazon. If you buy your books from Barns and Noble or any other book retailer, not to worry, Just go there and search Barry E. Woodham and you will find his work.  I have also included links to Barries blog where you will find a virtual ‘book’ free to read, as well as 15 Tales of the Ferryman and six ghost stories + a short SF.-----That keeps on growing!
